Ariana Grande has been vocal about dealing with depression and her recent journey with mental health. Ahead of her Coachella performance, the singer took to her Instagram to post wisdom given to the world by storied actor Jim Carrey.
"Depression is your body saying, 'I don't want to be this character anymore. I don't want to hold up this avatar that you've created in the world," the quote read. "It's too much for me. You should think of the word 'depressed' as 'deep rest.' Your body needs to be depressed. It needs deep rest from the character that you've been trying to play."
Carrey, who has emerged as an enigmatic, "woke" figure in recent times, caught wind of this post, and tweeted his respect and admiration for Grande, along with Easter greetings.

The two can be considered kindred spirits, as they both had to deal with the loss of their respective significant others largely in the public eye; Carrey's then-girlfriend Cathriona White passed away in 2015, while Grande's ex-boyfriend Mac Miller died in Sept. 2018.
