The new build your own Mario game, Mario Maker, started life as a tool for Nintendo developers. In an interview with Polygon developers said that the tools was originally meant only for internal development and creativity. But that fellow workers pitched it as a standalone game.
“They brought the idea to me thinking it would be a great game idea because they has so much fun...” said Entertainment Division head Takashi Tezuka.
Takashi relates Mario Maker to past Mario Paint games where players get to use their creativity with various drawing tools. "We think this is a game that will showcase people's sense of imagination.”
