'Dear White People' Hilariously Tackles Race Issues In First Netflix Trailer

Back in February, we were excited to tell you that Dear White People, the critically-acclaimed 2014 film that Netflix picked up for a series run, would be hitting the streaming service on April 28 with 10 30-minute episodes. Today, we're back with the first official trailer for the show, and if anything, this look at the show perfectly explains why it's so anticipated.

For starters, Justin Simien, who wrote, directed, and co-produced the movie, will be back to write and direct a number of the episodes, meaning the distinct voice from the film is intact. Speaking of the movie, the series picks up right where Dear White People left off, and while the likes of Tessa Thompson and Tyler James Williams aren't back, the very lovely Logan Browning steps up to portray Sam White, the voice of Winchester University's "Dear White People" radio program, while Brandon Bell returns as Troy Fairbanks. Interestingly enough, Giancarlo Esposito, who heads may remember as Gus Fring from Breaking Bad, will play the series' narrator.

In the trailer above, racial tensions are still high at Winchester, with the issues of social injustice, political (in)correctness, and cultural bias (among other problems) coming to a head in the wake of Pastiche's f*cked the f*ck up Halloween party from the film.

Kudos to Netflix for making sure we didn't have to leave these intriguing characters behind. Watch the full trailer up above, then get psyched for Dear White People when it hits Netflix on April 28.
