The only time these days that Prodigy gets to sneak in some video games is when he’s playing against his son. However, as a youngster, P was posted up in Times Square at the arcade mastering a whole a bunch of random video games. When he’s not busy writing books, dropping mixtapes, and working on new albums, he still manages to play a game or two every now and then. Check out Prodigy’s picks for his favorite games. Some of these are a real trip down memory lane.

Pitfall

That was on ColecoVision. It was one of the first games I got. The graphics were fucked up, with some dude swinging on vines across alligators and shit like that. You could jump in the water too and swim. It was corny as hell, but that was the first game I had in the house.

Dig Dug

When I was a kid, I used to love to play Dig Dug. It was like this little dude where he digs in the dirt and makes tunnels. You gotta try and make maaad tunnels in the dirt without collapsing that shit right over you. I would play that game for a long time, because I liked it so much.

Double Dribble

This is an old-ass game. Like, the first basketball game I ever played. Double Dribble's graphics were fucked up, but at the time it came out, that shit was dope though. I’m not really into sports; I like those “shoot em up” games. I'd make an exception for this one.

Contra

I don’t remember the secret code, but I remember that game very well. Doing flips with guns and shit. Contra is definetly one of my favorites.

Mortal Kombat

Mortal Kombat, was an ill game. I would always be either Reptile or Scorpion. Those dudes were ill. We used to stay up all night playing.

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

That was like one of my favorite games. I used to play the arcade version all the time. You would like, fly in an airplane and blow up the Death Star.

Dragon's Lair

We used to play this in the arcade all the time because it looked like a cartoon. It was also the most expensive game to play. It cost $2.50 a game. Dragon's Lair was real ill.

Knockout Kings

Muhammad Ali’s in it, Mike Tyson’s in it and we always played them against each other just to see how the fight would end up. Some people are better than others so I like to switch it up. Sometimes I’ll be Ali, other times Tyson.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

They got this one car, I think it’s a Shelby. It goes maaad fast. Sometimes when I'm arguing with people, like when dude at the store is making my sandwich or something, l be thinking “If this was Grand Theft Auto, I’d shoot this whole store up” [laughs].

Max Payne

I just like that game a lot. I like any “shoot em up” game with guns in it. The movie was cool too. Mark Wahlberg killed it.
