Bill Hader Returns to 'SNL' for Monologue

Welcome back, Bill. Comedian and actor Bill Hader returned to Saturday Night Live tonight, after a nearly five year absence from the show.

Hader, who moved on from the late night sketch show to pursue film and television opportunities, is back to give his fans some more. In the opening monologue, Hader recognized his absence from the show. He even poked fun at his upcoming HBO project "Barry," stating that hosts can just come on the late night sketch for promotional purposes. Then, he went straight into a new episode of The Californians.

The comedian was well received as a cast member on the long-running NBC comedy sketch show for eight seasons, from 2005 to 2013 and wowed the audiences with his colorful impressions. Those impressions, in which he portrayed figures like Clint Eastwood and Charlie Sheen, garnered him the nomination for an Emmy in 2012.

Hader talked to Paste Magazine about his SNL experience: "It's different, but the nice thing about hosting, having been a cast member, is that I know how the show works. So you're able to kinda have a lot of insight into what works and what doesn't work as opposed to someone who comes in like, 'I'm funny!' It doesn't always work that way."

Hader is the star of his new HBO series 'Barry," in which he stars as a hired hit man who falls in love with a student in his community theater class while on the job. The show is set to premier March 25.
