Stop-and-frisk isn't just something you read about, it's something that far too many experience on a daily basis. If you've never been a victim, listen to this clip from The Nation of the experience of a Harlem teenager named Alvin. Last June, he recorded his encounter with three plainclothes NYPD officers. It's one of the only known stop-and-frisk recordings, and it isn't pretty.
In the two-minute clip, the officers can be heard asking Alvin, "You want me to smack you?" and explaining that they were harassing him because he "For being a fucking mutt.” At one point, after one of the officers pins Alvin's arm behind his back, the cop says, "I’m gonna break your fuckin’ arm, then I’m gonna punch you in the fuckin’ face.”
Alvin says that they yanked him by his book bag and started pushing him down a hill. The teen believes his treatment was an attempt to get him to react so they could make an easy, bullshit arrest.
