A detective for the Jackson Police Department was shot and killed inside of the police station. According to Mayor Harvey Johnson, Detective Eric Smith and a murder suspect who was arrested yesterday afternoon both succumbed to gunshot wounds. The suspect was being interviewed when Jackson Police Chief Rebecca Coleman says shots rang out.
Smith and the suspect were found dead on the building's third floor. Smith, who had been a member of the Jackson Police Department since 1995, leaves behind a wife and two sons.
