'Rick and Morty' Fans Aren't Going to Be Happy About This Season 4 Update

2019 will be the year of both 'Rick and Morty' and 'Game of Thrones,' apparently.

That whole Szechuan sauce business might have been the last anyone will hear of Rick and Morty for quite some time, as a writer on the show has said that fans might have to wait well into 2019 for new episodes of the cult Adult Swim animated series.

In a radio interview with the Detroit Cast, Ridley explained that even if a season 4 is indeed in the cards for Rick and Morty, no one involved in the show’s production has done much to get the show going. Ridley revealed that none of the writers involved in the show, including co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, have even started working on the new season. Fans will remember the year-and-a-half long wait between season 2 and 3, but the wait for the fourth season could be even longer. Ridley puts it at the end of 2019.

"They really take their time," Ridley, who also worked with Harmon on Community, said. "I never understood why everybody—all parties, Dan, Justin, and Adult Swim—didn’t get their shit together, and make the show fast. I just don't get it. It doesn’t make any sense to me. I'm sure they all have their reasons."

According to VICE, Adult Swim has not ordered any new episodes of the animated series. Nevertheless, Harmon suggested in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he did indeed plan to create a fourth season of the critically acclaimed show to prove that he’s "grown," although that was back in September of last year.

Ridley hasn’t seen anyone make any moves to start working on the new season, which makes him believe it could take a longer time than fans might hope for.

"I know how long this show takes to write, let alone animate," he said. "I'd be surprised if there was a fourth season on the air anytime sooner than 2019... late 2019."

But if it was up to him, everything would go by much quicker.

"They really take their time," he said. "I never understood why everybody—all parties, Dan, Justin, and Adult Swim—didn’t get their shit together, and make the show fast. I just don't get it. It doesn’t make any sense to me. I'm sure they all have their reasons."

"Get it all together," he said, "and put it in a backpack."
