Pete Davidson Wipes Instagram After Sparring With Ariana Grande Fans (UPDATE)

While it's still unclear why 'SNL' cast member Pete Davidson decided to delete everything from his Instagram, the move comes just one day after he caught some flack for a misinterpreted comment on one of his fiancé Ariana Grande's Instagram photos.

UPDATED 9:20 p.m. ET: Pete Davidson took to his IG to post a message explaining why he deleted all of his posts on the platform. "no there’s nothing wrong. no nothing happened. no there’s nothing cryptic about anything. i just don’t wanna be on instagram anymore. or any social media platform. the internet is an evil place and it doesn't make me feel good," Davidson wrote. "why should i spend any time on negative energy when my real life is fucking lit. the fact that i even have to say this proves my point. i love you all and i'm sure i'll be back at some point..."

Pete Davidson cleared his entire Instagram feed on Monday. Whether he decided he needed a social media break or there’s a deeper reason for the wipe, no one quite knows yet. The SNL cast member’s only remaining post is an Instagram story of him in Syracuse with Machine Gun Kelly.

Still, the speculation machine has been churning away like always. On Thursday, Davidson received some blowback from fans of his fiancé, Ariana Grande, after he commented on a photo she posted of her and her late grandfather. Grande’s photo was captioned “Miss n love you forever my best friend.” Davidson commented “omg what a cutie,” which some fans thought was an ill-timed, unnecessary compliment directed at Ari. Davidson replied to one comment: “Are you guys all insane? I was talking about how cute her grandpa is. What’s wrong with that? You guys will really look for anything to attack people. It’s sad.”

Davidson and Grande have been very public on Instagram since they announced their engagement. The two comment on each other’s photos so often that even Seth Rogen had to get involved to say things were getting a little bit too mushy. Davidson told Rogen “when you’re getting married to the hottest girl in the world you tell me how you’d act.” Do with that what you will.

While celebrities do sometimes wipe their 'grams clean, it’s usually to grab attention for an upcoming project, which doesn’t immediately appear to be the case with Davidson. With that said, it’s still unclear if he really deleted his content because of some fans who were upset over a comment.

In any case, Grande herself took to the internet to offer some positive vibes, tweeting that “the energy you put out is exactly what you get back.” You can read into it, but it’s not unlike the messages Grande tweets out any other day.

Mac Miller, Grande’s ex-boyfriend, spoke out about his breakup with the pop singer in an interview for the first time on Monday. Grande began dating Davidson just days after she and Miller announced their split, although she suggested there had been long-lasting problems in the relationship. Miller insisted that “it’s all positive energy” and that he’s “happy for her and moving forward with her life just as I’m sure she is with me.”
