Disney’s recent acquisition of 20th Century Fox has every one who's ever read a comic book (or just likes the explosion of superhero led cinematic universes in the past decade) spinning with the possibilities of what the merger could mean for the future of our favorite superheroes. Disney, who already owns Marvel, will now own the rights to the Marvel characters that previously belonged to Fox, including the Fantastic Four and X-Men, as well as some Batman rights and Deadpool. The possibilities for how one could combine all of these universes and characters were—until two weeks—the stuff of imagination. Now, thanks to Disney's shelling out $52.4 billion (in stock) for the film studio, all of those fan theories are fair game to become reality.
Alex Luthor, a YouTuber who specializes in creating fan trailers, took it upon himself to provide a blueprint for what a Fantastic Four and Marvel studios future might look like. Using footage from Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and the Fantastic Four franchise, Luthor dropped Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and The Thing into the MCU in a “concept trailer." To take it past what we've already seen, he added footage from non-comic book movies to create new scenes and actors, like Zac Efron and Joel Edgerton. The video is narrated by Matthew McConaughey’s voice, which is intended to be an inspirational speech by his character Doctor Doom, using audio is taken from Interstellar.
The concept trailer features Chris Evans and Michael B. Jordan—the past two Human Torches in the Fantastic Four franchise—who have both abandoned their original Fantastic Four roles to take on Marvel characters.
Disney’s deal with Fox will still take some time to be finalized, so this meeting of the franchises will take until at least 2019 to happen. Until then, though, it's not like the superhero industrial complex is slowing down. Marvel is keeping its 2018 calendar busy with the release of Avengers: Infinity War, as well as Ant-Man and the Wasp, Venom, and the highly anticipated Black Panther. And Fox has its own releases already slated for 2018, including Deadpool 2, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and The New Mutants.
