Whatever you think of the Kardashian family, you to have to admit that they are (or at least put in a lot of effort to make it seem as though they are) very close. They always have each other’s backs, and that’s exactly what Kim Kardashian proved recently, when the UK tabloid The Daily Mailpublished never-before-seen photos of her mother, Kris Jenner, when she was young. The headline called Kris “chubby-faced” and went on to repeat that term throughout the article. Kim was not having any of that.
Kim’s criticism of The Daily Mail’s headline centers on the tabloid's derogatory use of the term "chubby." The article makes several mentions of Kris’s body shape, at one point calling her "chubby" but then noting that she had slimmed down, and relies heavily on quotes from a former boyfriend of Kris who took the exclusive photos, Alfred M. Garcia.
He suggests someone else—another boyfriend—had bought her expensive car for her, since he assumed she could not have been able to afford it. He also says Kris “was always looking for the gold at the end of the rainbow.” Although many might disagree with how she made her millions, Kris is reportedly now worth $60 million and can certainly buy her own cars. Some mention of ambition or success would seem to be more logical than calling out how chubby she may or may not have been at 22 years old.
Although we can’t be sure that’s exactly what Kim was thinking, it seems pretty evident in her tweet that she was angry and annoyed at the unnecessary way the tabloid called out her mom’s appearance. Of course, there's nothing wrong with being chubby, but the word is often used to malign women’s appearances and bring them down. Many fans agreed that was exactly what The Daily Mail was doing, and that Kim was right for calling them out.
