It seems the Fast and Furious franchise has plenty of gas left in the tank.

During a recent interview with Fandango, Vin Diesel revealed there’s been discussion about a 12th F&F installment. The 55-year-old actor dropped the news during a red carpet premiere for Fast X, which has been billed as the franchise’s penultimate entry. However, Diesel — who stars in and produces the action flicks — said Universal Pictures had proposed closing the saga with a trilogy.

“As filmmakers, you want to allow people to enjoy the film without tipping the hat too much,” he told Fandago when asked about the future of his F&F character, Dominic Toretto. “I can say this: Going into making this movie, the studio had asked if this could be a two-parter. And after the studio saw this, part one, they said, ‘Could you make Fast X, the finale, a trilogy?’”

“It’s three acts in any story,” added Michelle Rodriguez, Diesel’s longtime co-star.

When asked if they were confirming a 12th film, Diesel said, “We probably are,” before he and Rodriguez scurried away.

The Fast and Furious franchise kicked off in 2001 and has since become one of the highest-grossing franchises of all time.

Fast X, which will hit U.S. theaters on May 19, is believed to be the fourth-most expensive film ever made, as it had a reported production budget of $340 million. The film was directed by Louis Leterrier and co-stars Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jason Momoa, Jordana Brewster, and Jason Statham.
