Tracy Morgan confessed he would "give it all back" for his friend and fellow comedian Jimmy McNair, who died in the 2014 car crash that almost claimed his own life.
When asked what he would say to people who believe "life is good" for the comedian after receiving millions of dollars in an undisclosed out-of-court settlement with Walmart, Morgan immediately thought about his friend. "I'd give it all back, if I get my friend back," he told Nate Burleson for CBS Mornings. "And I wouldn't blink."
After fighting back tears, Tracy continued, "Miss you, Jim. I'd give it all back, if I could get him back. But that's not gonna happen, so I gotta live on."
Morgan was riding in a limousine with McNair in June 2014 when the vehicle was struck by a tractor trailer belonging to Walmart. The Saturday Night Live alum spent two weeks in a coma after sustaining several broken bones in his face, fracturing his femur, and suffering brain trauma.
"There are days where I don't physically feel well," he said. "You gotta understand what I've been through. I've been hit by a truck that was doing 75 miles per hour with 85,000 pounds of frozen food in the back."
Tracy said he forgave the Walmart driver who nearly killed him "as soon as I came out the coma" because without doing so, "I wouldn't be able to move forward."
Even as the years go by, Morgan has continued to keep the memory of McNair alive. Five years after the crash, the comedian shared a heartfelt message about his friend.
In 2023, Morgan remembered McNair.
