Tom Holland Talks Marvel Departure: ‘The Legacy and Future of Spidey Rests in Sony’s Safe Hands’

Sony’s decision to end their agreement with Disney over the use of Spider-Man IPA in upcoming films has left many Marvel fans concerned about the future of the franchise without the Midas touch of Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. Tom Holland isn’t one of those people.

In an interview with GQ Style, Holland spoke about the split in what screamed of a Sony-approved statement. First, there was the obligatory appreciation for Marvel and their impact on his acting career. "I'm not shy about expressing how incredible the last five years have been with Marvel," Holland said. "I've truly had the time of my life, and in so many respects, they have made my dreams come true as an actor."

Then, Holland showed his support for the new direction of Spider-Man "in Sony’s safe hands."

"Sony has also been really good to me, and the global success of Spider-Man: Far From Home is a real testament to their support, skill, and commitment," he added. "The legacy and future of Spidey rests in Sony’s safe hands. I really am nothing but grateful, and I've made friends for life along the way."

Holland continues to play it safe when discussing a situation as complicated as the Sony/Disney dispute. He had similiar touching points when the 23-year-old addressed the split during Disney's D23 Expo last month. Whether he's committed to his contractual obligations or concerned about potentially messing up his money with an opportunity as lucrative as playing the web slinger, Holland will never fly off the cuff in interviews. Just let him live.
