Lin-Manuel Miranda is crafting a stage musical adaptation of Sol Yurick's 1965 novel The Warriors, according to the sources for the New York Post and Variety.
The Warriors, which was the inspiration behind the Walter Hill-directed 1979 cult classic movie of the same name, tells the story of a fictional gang in New York City that travels from the Bronx to Coney Island after being accused of killing a respected gang leader.
The Warriors will become Miranda's first stage musical venture since Hamilton, which debuted in 2015. The 43-year-old multi-hyphenate previously worked with Quiara Alegria Hudes to bring In the Heights to Broadway. The play was adapted for the big screen in 2021.
Since his final performance in Hamilton in 2016, Miranda's work has included directing the Andrew Garfield-led film Tick, Tick... Boom!, writing the Oscar-nominated song "Dos Oruguitas" for Encanto, and serving as a producer on this year's The Little Mermaid remake. The latter has earned $564.2 million worldwide since its May release.
