'Thor: Ragnarok' Director Taika Waititi in Talks for Role in James Gunn’s ‘Suicide Squad’

Let the cross-pollination between DC Entertainment and Marvel Studios continue.

Deadline has learned that Taika Waititi is in talks to join the cast of the James Gunn-directed The Suicide Squad. The potential addition of Waititi, the filmmaker behind Thor: Ragnarok and the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, further quels the rivalry between the comic book movie studios.

Shazam! director David F. Sandberg shot down speculation on Instagram last year, calling it "so god damn stupid."

Regardless of whether or not he lands a role in The Suicide Squad, Waititi has plenty on the horizon. After Jojo Rabbit, a film he wrote, directed, and stars in as Adolf Hitler—yes, that Adolf Hitler, which will be released next month, Waititi will be getting behind the camera for Next Goal Wins, and then begin working on 2020's Love and Thunder with his sights set on adapting the post-apocalyptic manga classic Akira for a May 2021 release.

Oh, and we forgot to mention that he also directed an episode of the Star Wars series The Mandalorian for the Disney+ streaming service.
