Following various controversies surrounding Euphoria, creator Sam Levinson decided to push the envelope even further with the upcoming series The Idol, also on HBO. Where could Levinson possibly go from here?
How about the completely opposite direction? When Variety asked him in Cannes "when he might pivot from series and make a feature film," he had a surprising response.
“I have a 7-year-old son at home,” Levinson said, according to Variety. “I want to make a movie for him. I want to make a Goonies.”
The 1985 cult classic tells the story of a group of kids who embark on a journey after discovering a treasure map that they believe will lead to the hidden fortune of the pirate One-Eyed Willie.

Abel Tesfaye, a.k.a. The Weeknd, will next month premiere his and Sam Levinson's 'The Idol' as part of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival lineup.
The first two episodes of The Idol debuted at the Cannes Film Festival this week, getting severely panned by many who were there. Levinson has shrugged off the barrage of criticism, declaring at a Cannes press conference that he believes the HBO series will be "the biggest show of the summer."
Despite dealing with reports of a toxic work environment, persistent discussions over nudity in the series, and Barbie Ferreira's departure due to the depiction of her character, Levinson delivered a hit with Euphoria, which last season became HBO's second-most watched show since 2004.
The Idol stars Lily Rose-Depp and Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye, who is also credited as a co-creator. The series debuts on June 4.
