Ricky Gervais started his opening monologue at this year's Golden Globes by letting the crowd know "you’ll be pleased to know this is the last time I’m hosting these awards." It could've been received as Gervais stating a fact, but it should have probably come across as a warning that he was going to come out swinging like never before.
