Deadline has learned that John Cena will star in the live-action and animated hybrid Looney Tunes film Coyote vs. Acme. Dave Green, who previously helmed 2016’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, has been tapped to direct, with a Samy Burch-penned screenplay inspired by the 1990 New Yorker article “Coyote vs. Acme,” written by Ian Frazier.

The article tells the story of Wile E. Coyote hiring a human lawyer to sue ACME Corporation over the numerous defective products that he has encountered. Wile E.’s attorney eventually discovers that his former boss, who will be played by Cena, is representing ACME. The film is being produced by Chris DeFaria and James Gunn.

Gunn announced earlier today that HBO Max has renewed the Cena-led series Peacemaker for a second season.

Cena debuted the character Christopher Smith a.k.a. Peacemaker in last year’s film The Suicide Squad. One month after its day-and-date release, the streamer revealed a spinoff series centered around Peacemaker would go into production the following year. Gunn explained on Twitter that he made the Peacemaker series because he was “stuck at home” due to the pandemic during a period of downtime before he would begin working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Speaking of Vol. 3, Gunn said in an Instagram Stories Q&A that he always intended to turn Guardians into a trilogy, adding, “I have no plans to do a 4th.” The third installment has a tentative release date of May, 2023.
