If you have not seen the second episode for Season 8 of Game of Thrones, please be warned that there will be a few spoilers below regarding what happened during last night's episode.
Now that we got out of the way, let's start with the preview for the third episode.
Sunday's episode, "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms," ended with a shot of the army of the dead approaching Winterfell. This cliffhanger gave way to the preview which gave us subtle clues about what to expect in episode three. One Reddit user gravitated towards the part where Daenerys tells Jon, "The dead are already here," at the 23-second mark.
The plan currently in place involves fending off the dead while a smaller group sets their sights on taking care of the Night King. As this is all going down, women, children, and smarter people in the operation, such as Samwell Tarly and Tyrion Lannister, will be safely tucked away in the crypts of Winterfell. Or, at least, that's what they think.
As we saw last season, the Night King was able to resurrect Dany's dragon Viserion, making it a part of his army. The same could possibly be done with anyone in the crypt. There's also a passage from the book A Game of Thrones that appears to hint at the resurrection of the dead Starks in the crypt.
Back in January, Thrones released a teaser for Season 8 titled "Crypts of Winterfell," which showed Jon Snow, Sansa and Arya Stark seeing their own statues before the all too familiar rush of cold air sweeps into the crypt.
Since the crypt is heavily focused on in the lead-up to the final season, it has to mean something. Right?
Tune in next Sunday to find out.
