UPDATED 2/19, 3:50 p.m. EST: Armie Hammer directly addressed the Batman rumor to Yahoo UK. “No one who can actually give me the job has asked me if I’m interested. I don’t even know if they are done—they are still working on a script," he said. "I don’t think that they are close to production but I can conclusively tell you that no one has checked my availability, which is a bummer.”

Revenge of the Fans is reporting that Armie Hammer is in "final talks" to play the Caped Crusader in the upcoming Matt Reeves-directed The Batman film. Even though Hammer has yet to join the project, he is "expected" to take the role, the publication reports.

This news comes less than a week after Ben Affleck confirmed his obvious departure during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where he conceded that the time had come for "someone else take a shot at it."

"You know, I tried to direct a version, worked with a really good screenwriter, but just kinda couldn't come up with a version, couldn't crack it," Affleck said. "So I thought it was, like, you know, time to let someone else take a shot at it and they got some really good people so I'm excited."

Umberto Gonzalez of The Wrap is disputing the report, claiming that his sources told him the studio intends to go younger than 32 years old, which is Hammer's age.

If 32 years old is considered too old for Reeves' vision for the titular role in The Batman, then there are a number of names being thrown around that we can ignore. Like, everyone on this list. Gonzalez calls Bodyguard and Game of Thrones actor Richard Madden his "personal choice," but he's also 32.

Warner Bros. revealed late last month that The Batman is expected to be in theaters on June 25, 2021.
