Finland's Millionaire Prime Minister Offers His Second Home to Refugees

In a surprising move, Finland’s Prime Minister announced that he’s going to let refugees live in his second home starting in 2016. According to the Daily Mail, Prime Minister Juha Sipila’s decision came after a widespread public outcry over the opening of refugee reception centers across the country. Sipila, who has another home near Helsinki, said he rarely used the house in Kempele. Like other European countries, Finland has seen an uptick in the number of asylum seekers, with estimates of 16,000 migrants entering the country by the end of the year. Already, 2,313 immigrants have arrived in the country, according to the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration.

Sipila’s decision to dedicate his country home to refugees is unprecedented, and he has hopes that other countries will propose similar measures.
