A Prince Documentary Is Slated To Debut Sometime In 2017

Prince is getting a new documentary, and it's slated to debut some time in 2017. The film, which is reportedly titled Prince: R U Listening?, will focus on the legend's early years, with commentary from musicians, friends, and family who knew him best.

You didn't have to know Prince personally to know that he always did things big and in style. So keeping that in mind, the doc will feature interviews from legends like Mick Jagger, Lenny Kravitz, Bono, and Billy Idol. The film will also speak to former band member Dez Dickerson, who left after Prince's 1999 tour, and bassist André Cymone, who toured with the artist in 1981. Longtime PBS filmmaker Michael Kirk will reportedly direct the film, according to Rolling Stone.

A release date for the film has not been specified yet, but it is expected to roll out some time in mid-to-late 2017. In order to keep the celebration of Prince's legacy going, the artist's estate will reportedly host a four-day festival in April called Celebration 2017. The concert, which will commemorate the one-year anniversary of the singer's untimely death, will feature performances by musicians Prince worked with throughout his career, including the Revolution, Morris Day and the Time, the New Power Generation, and Shelby J.

Additionally, Prince's Paisley Park residence has been cleared to be converted into a museum. The exhibit will showcase the artist's original tour costumes, unreleased music, and other precious artifacts. Prince may be gone, but he definitely won't be forgotten.
