Marge Simpson, dead?

The Simpsons series rarely kills off characters.

Until now, that is, although there's a catch, and it's a big one: Marge didn't die in real time. The show's finale did show her dead in the future, though, funeral and all. Homer outlives her.

Thus, fans can expect to see the character again.

Some fans were upset about the death all the same, with one writing on X, "No way have they killed off Marge Simpson! wtf."

"I'M DEVASTATED," wrote another.

But others felt it was all overdone.

"Yeah in a flash forward episode," another fan responded.

Things don't look too bad for Marge in heaven, though, as she meets Ringo Starr. The Simpsons' concept of heaven includes lots of shrimp.

It all went down in the iconic series' Season 36 finale.

The "Estranger Things" episode focuses on the bond, and lack thereof at times, between siblings Bart and Lisa Simpson.

The brother and sister have grown apart over the years, and Marge is shown in heaven 35 years into the future, according to the New York Post.

In the future, Lisa is the NBA Commissioner, and Bart runs a nursing home where their dad lives. (IGN notes that the Simpson's peeks into the future have sometimes contradicted each other.)

Marge's death becomes clear in a scene showing her funeral with a distraught Homer Simpson and other family members standing around her grave, the Post reported, adding that Lisa then finds a video in which Marge implored her kids to stay close, so they take her advice and make up.

“I’m so happy my kids are close again," Marge says, according to the Post, and that's when Ringo Starr shows up in heaven and says, “Love, we’ll be late for the Heaven Buffet. There’s a shrimp tower.”
