Tyrese Says He Was 'Devastated and Crushed' Over Divorce: 'I Let God Down'

The actor and singer has been married twice, with his second marriage to Samantha Lee ending in divorce in 2020.

For years, Tyrese Gibson has aired out his divorce from ex-wife Samantha Lee. However on Club Shay Shay, the 1992 star confessed that the emotional fallout from their marriage deeply affected him, making it difficult to recover.

Gibson was on the show to promote his upcoming film and album, Beautiful Pain. During the episode, posted on Wednesday, August 28, around the 1:53:00 mark of the video above, the "Lately" singer addressed female viewers, assuring them that he wasn't trying to be "misogynistic" or "condescending." He expressed concern that many modern female singers are promoting the idea that "they don't need a man."

In a message "to all the beautiful women in the world," he continued, "No one needs to to go home to a poodle and a vibrator. Nobody needs to be alone, nobody should be alone."

He criticized the notion of being alone as "bullshit," pointing out that some of these female singers are in relationships themselves. His views on"toxic ass shit" led him to reflect on his own divorce from Lee.

"So I was not devastated when my divorce ended, because I wanted someone or something to be with me," he said. "I got married because I wanted to do it for the rest of my life, because I led the way I felt and what I had in my marriage and my family."

Joking that his happiness was "up there with the Care Bears," Gibson added that he was "devastated and crushed" when Lee filed for divorce. The ex spouses share a 5-year-old daughter, Soraya, while Gibson also shares a 16-year-old daughter, Shayla, with his first wife, Norma Mitchell.

"I let God down, you see. I didn't promise her anything," Gibson told host Shannon Sharpe.

Elsewhere, he said, "I've never allowed anyone to matter as much as my marriage mattered. I've also I've also never gave anyone so much of myself, ever."

Last week, Gibson claimed that Lee was upset with his emotional interview on the Breakfast Club, where their divorce was discussed, to the point that she requested a $40,000 increase to monthly child support payments.

"I'm out here stressed the fuck out," he said in the video below. "She divorced me and they're rubbing their hands over there, hoping I do more concerts, shows, movies... They're trying to get to the bottom of what actual money is in my bank account so they can put it in their law firm's pockets. This is a dirty fucking game out here, ain't it? Welp, y'all keep waiting."
