Regina King named her seven favorite albums of the year as a tribute to her late son, Ian Alexander Jr.
On Christmas Day, the Academy Award-winning actress posted an Instagram carousel of her 2024 top album picks, including The Book of Clarence soundtrack, Tyler, the Creator's Chromakopia, Willow Smith's Empathogen, Kendrick Lamar's GNX, Cory Wong, Jules Buckley, and Metropole Orkest's Starship Syncopation, Florence + the Machine and Jules Buckley's Symphony of Lungs, and Ka's The Thief Next to Jesus.
As January marks the third year of Ian's death by suicide at 26 years old, King wanted to honor her late son, whom she shares with ex-husband Ian Alexander Sr., before 2024's end.
"As we close out the year, I wanted to share my seven favorite albums of 2024," King captioned the post. "Why 7? Because seven is Ianâs đ§Ąfavorite number and the number of completionâa perfect way to reflect on the past yearâs highlights."
She continued, "Wishing you and your families the faith to believe, the energy to create, and the love to sustain a peaceful and joyous holiday season. May that faith, love, and joy carry through into the new year and beyond."
While promoting the Shirley biopic in March, King appeared on Good Morning America, where she talked to anchor Robin Roberts about her son's sudden passing.
"I'm a different person now than I was Jan. 19, I am... Grief is a journey," King told Roberts. "I understand that grief is love that has no place to go. I know that it's important to me to honor Ian in the totality of who he is, speak about him in the present because he is always with me. The joy and happiness that he gave all of us."
