Quinta Brunson didn't green light on her divorce from Kevin Anik being publicized.

Just months after the divorce was reported in the press, the Abbott Elementary star and creator spoke to Bustle about the news of her split in the magazine's July cover story. When her and Anik's split was revealed, it wasn't on Brunson's terms.

"I remember seeing people be like, 'She announced her divorce,'" Brunson told the publication. "I didn’t announce anything."

Brunson continued with thoughts that "people have this idea that people in the public eye want the public to know their every move." "None of us do. I promise you," she said. "No one wants [everyone] to know when you buy a house, when you move, when a major change happens in your personal life. It’s just that that’s public record information."

When Bustle journalist Katie Heaney shared that she read a sensationalized story about Brunson purchasing a house in 2024, the actress said she "hated" the reports. "I hated all of it," she continued.

Although Brunson and Anik's three-year marriage was largely private, the former couple had been spotted at occasional award shows and media events throughout their relationship. While accepting the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series in 2022, Brunson called Anik — who works in the legal marijuana industryas "the most supportive man I've ever known."
