LaKeith Stanfield joked that he needed permission from his wife, Kasmere Trice Stanfield, to be cast in new political comedy-adventure I Love Boosters.
The Atlanta alum was a guest on the Tuesday (May 26) episode of TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle to promote the Boots Riley-directed film, where he plays supporting character Pinky Ring Guy. Spoiler alert: since the character has a lengthy love scene in Boosters, his wife was cast opposite him as Whitney with the Laptop.
“When you see this movie, you shall see why it was important not only did I have to get her permission, but she had to be cast in the role opposite me,” Stanfield said about his wife of 3 years. “She did a reading; Boots liked it, the producers liked it, they hired her on. So it worked out.”
“It was so nice to share the screen with her,” he concluded.
Mrs. Stanfield has also acted alongside her husband in the visual album for Teyana Taylor’s Escape Room and a campaign for Kith and Giorgio Armani, along with last year’s Die My Love. The couple share a child who was born in 2023, while the actor is also a father to 2 daughters from previous relationships.
I Love Boosters, which co-stars Keke Palmer, Naomi Ackie and Taylour Paige, is in theaters now.
