The alert called for viewers to "see more on" and included the racial slur used during the 2026 BAFTAs.

Google has apologized after posting a computer-generated alert about the n-word being shouted during this year’s BAFTAs, without the word being properly censored.

While presenting the award for Special Visual Effects Award during the 79th British Academy Film Awards, Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were interrupted by Tourette’s syndrome activist John Davidson. The Scottish campaigner, who’s the subject of biopic I Swear, loudly shouted the n-word during a pause in Jordan and Lindo’s presentation. Host Alan Cumming calling for the audience to have an “understanding” for Davidson’s use of “strong language” sent off a firestorm on social media.

Davidson also provided an explanation for his explicit outbursts, but to many, the damage has been done. The fallout intensified this week when Google posted a news alert linking a Hollywood Reporter article about the incident. The alert invited viewers to “see more on” the n-word by writing the offensive term in full.

A spokesperson for the tech brand issued an apology, which was shared by Deadline. “We’re very sorry for this mistake. We’ve removed the offensive notification and are working to prevent this from happening again,” the statement read.

Following the awards ceremony, Sinners production designer Hannah Beachler claimed that the outburst shown during the telecast wasn’t the only time Davidson had used the word that evening. The activist allegedly said it twice more, including once to a Black woman at the event.

“I know we must handle this with grace and continue to push through. But what made the situation worse was the throw away apology of "if you were offended,” Beachler tweeted.

Lindo also shared their disappointment with a lack of urgency by BAFTAs telling Vanity Fair that he wished someone from the organization had spoken to him and Jordan after the incident.
