Evangeline Lilly has shared a shocking but hopeful update about her health in a new social media post.

On Friday (January 2), the Ant-Man star took to Instagram to share a reel detailing the results of a recent brain scan after suffering a concussion last May. At the time, the actor sustained multiple injuries, writing in a Substack entry that she had fallen "face-first into a boulder" while at a beach.

"I have had 'absent' and fainting spells since I was a little girl," Lilly wrote. "The doctors checked me for epilepsy when I was young and then settled on the idea of hypoglycemia (without doing any testing). For a good chunk of my life, I went with that – hypoglycemia."

But long after ruling out the glucose condition, in her Instagram reel, Lilly revealed that her "brain is functioning at a decreased capacity."

"So, I do have brain damage from the TBI [traumatic brain injury], and possibly other factors going on," she continued. "Now, my job is to get to the bottom of that with the doctors and then embark on the hard work of fixing it."

As defined by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, a traumatic brain injury is usually sustained by an "outside force," like a forceful bump or blow, which can result in temporary or extensive issues with brain functioning.

Lilly added that she doesn't look forward to undergoing medical care, as she often does "hard work." "That's okay, my cognitive decline since I smashed my face open has helped me to slow down and helped me to have a more restful finished 2025," she continued.

The Lost actor added that she's had "the most restful" holiday season in quite some time and that she's "extraordinarily grateful" to be alive.

"Verdict's in...I do have brain damage from my tbi," Lilly captioned her post. "Comforting to know my cognitive decline isn't just peri-menopause, discomforting to know what an uphill battle it will be to try to reverse the deficiencies."

Since her injury, Lilly has retired from acting and last starred in 2023 MCU flick Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
