While most celebrities attending Met Gala wore ultramodern attire, rapper Doechii walked the carpet in a traditional West African-inspired look.
During the Monday (May 4) event, Alligator Bites Never Heal artist wore a custom burgundy two-piece Marc Jacobs garment for her second time at the Met Gala. Doechii was also barefoot while walking the carpet, her feet and hands both covered in henna designs. She also wore anklets to highlight the temporary tattoos.
To match her asymmetrical skin-baring dress, Doechii was crowned with a towering headwrap.
On the carpet, the “Nissan Altima” artist stopped by reporters to share that the look was “grounding” her. “This is art to me, this is human to me, it’s vulnerable, it’s feminine, and that’s how I’m feeling tonight,” said the Tampa, Florida, native.
Last year, Doechii was one of a few celebrities chosen to wear custom Louis Vuitton during fashion’s biggest night. For her Met Gala debut, Doechii rocked an afro, and a monogrammed LV suit with trouser shorts, calf-length socks and burgundy loafers fresh off her Grammy win for Best Rap Album.
In other fashion news, Doechii is also featured alongside Lady Gaga on new single “Runway” from The Devil Wears Prada 2 soundtrack. In an interview with E! News, the rapper said she and Gaga had “more to come.”
