Dave Franco has been more than aware of the Luigi Mangione comparisons.
During a sit-down for The Hollywood Reporter with his Together crew, including wife Alison Brie, Franco addressed the elephant in the room, sharing that he'd been repeatedly contacted about Mangione. The jailed data scientist is currently awaiting trial and has been charged with first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder for killing UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson. The murder was controversial, igniting dialogue about the growing costs and denial of medical care and insurance.
When asked about the comparisons to Mangione, Brie told THR, "Anyone? Do you mean everyone?"
"I have never received more texts in my life about anything," Franco added. "Anyone who has my phone number has reached out about it."
Shortly after Mangione was named as a suspect in the Dec. 4, 2024, killing of Thompson in midtown Manhattan, social media users called on Franco to portray Mangione in a biopic, as the two have similar bushy eyebrows. Mangione was arrested five days in Pennsylvania after Thompson's death and on Dec. 23 pleaded not guilty to 11 state criminal charges, including the charges of murder and terrorism.
While nothing official is in the works involving Franco, there's currently a Hulu documentary on Mangione, titled Manhunt: Luigi Mangione and the CEO Murder. Anonymous Content and Alex Gibney of Jigsaw Productions are also reportedly creating a documentary about Mangione.
