Chris Rock claims that he and late rapper 2Pac nearly got into a fight after they were both involved with the same woman.
The actor and comedian was a guest during a recent live version of podcast Fly on the Wall with Dana Carvey and David Spade. Rock recalled a falling out with 2Pac, who was fatally shot in September 1996.
Around the 16-minute mark of the conversation, shown below, Rock plainly stated, “2Pac didn’t like me.”
Elsewhere, Rock said the situation was “weird” between the entertainers, while Carvey joked that he “had the same problem” with the All Eyez On Me rapper.
“It’s always the same shit, [we were] fucking the same girls,” said Rock, who’s divorced. “He always won that battle.”
The Rustin actor also recalled presenting at the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards just months before 2Pac died and making a dig toward Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight onstage.
“Suge Knight, how you doing? Don’t kill me,” Rock said while presenting Best R&B Video with Beck.
At an afterparty following Rock’s release of stand-up special Bring the Pain, 2Pac allegedly approached him as if he wanted to fight.
“2Pac was like, ‘What’s up with all n***as and Black people shit?’” Rock said. “He kinda stepped to me, but 2Pac was not that big.
“He photographs big, but he's not that big,” Rock continued. “I'm still pretty skinny. So, a skinny guy can't wait to fight a skinny guy. But nothing happened. There was some mean-mugging going on.”
Rock added that attendees at the party were “scared of Suge,” including producer Eric B, who he claimed was previously a drug dealer.
“And he was like, ‘Why'd you talk about Suge?’” Rock recalled about his interaction with Eric B. “I'm like, ‘If this guy is scared of Suge, we're all in trouble.’”
Social media has theorized that 2Pac and Rock had beef over actress Jada Pinkett Smith, who was the rapper’s childhood friend. Although Pinkett Smith and 2Pac kissed once as teens, the timeline wouldn’t make sense, as the actress was dating future Academy Award winner Will Smith in 1996 before they married the following year.
