Andrew Schulz Defends Kendrick Lamar Joke, Says Fans Turned It Into a Race Issue

On The Breakfast Club, the comedian said that he dislikes "having to explain jokes."

Andrew Schulz doesn't regret joking that he wanted to "make love" to Kendrick Lamar. The comedian thinks that Kendrick's fans made it a bigger deal than what it was.

Schulz was a guest on radio program The Breakfast Club on Monday (March 10), and DJ Envy joked if he was still wanted to "make love" to Kendrick. "Honestly, it's hard to say no to that," Schulz joked before agreeing that he found the rapper "attractive."

When Lauren LaRosa asked if Schulz was a fan of Kendrick's Celine jeans worn during the Super Bowl LIX halftime show, he referenced the rapper's GNX track "Peekaboo." "When I saw those jeans, I was like, 'boom-bop-bing-bop-boom-bop-bam.'"

"They made that shit racist so fast," Schulz said about his previous joke. "I’m just saying he’s little! I hate having to explain jokes. He’s itty bitty, so why is he telling people to kill my friends?"

Schulz then discussed GNX song "Wacced Out Murals," where Kendrick rapped, "Don’t let no white comedian talk about no Black woman," alleged to have been a reference to Schulz. It was after the album dropped that Schulz joked about hooking up with the 22-time Grammy winner, who could "decide if it's consensual or not."

"The next line, he goes, 'And to the N-words that coon and to the N-words that groom, slide on both of them.' What does ‘slide’ mean to y’all?" Schulz asked the co-hosts about their interpretation of "Wacced Out Murals. "If you say kill my friends, everything after that is fine. You took it there."

Schulz added that he received death threats once GNX was released, as "Wacced Out Murals" is the opening track.

"I filmed my special–I don't really give a fuck. And then after that, I was like 'Yo we're gonna have some fun with this.' But I don't like this idea that I'm this big bully–you told your people to kill my friends."

Schulz concluded by saying that his joke "got blown out of proportion" and called Kendrick a "prolific rapper" who's "fantastic at what he does."
