Academy Award winning actress Diane Keaton has died.

As reported by People, the Annie Hall star died in California. She was 79 years old.

Keaton, who was born on January 5, 1946, made her acting debut in 1970 romantic comedy Lovers and Other Strangers but had her breakthrough performance two years later as Kay Adams-Corleone in The Godfather. Among Keaton's string of 1970s films, the actress starred opposite controversial filmmaker Woody Allen in 1978 romantic comedy-drama Annie Hall, which earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress the following year.

In 2023, Keaton spoke to AARP about her career journey, and said that it was her late mother, Dorothy Keaton, who inspired her to become a performer.

"When I was a young girl, about 6, I watched my mother get crowned Mrs. Highland Park," Keaton told the publication. "I remember going, 'Oh my God, I want that too. I want to go up there on the stage where it’s all lit up.'"

Keaton's '70s streak was the launchpad for her to be in classic films like Father of the Bride, The First Wives Club, Something's Gotta Give, The Family Stone and Because I Said So. Keaton's final performance was in the 2024 comedy Summer Camp. The entertainer published three books during her life, including her 2011 memoir and New York Times bestseller, Then Again.

Keaton, who did not marry, is survived by her adopted children, Dexter, 29, and Duke, 25.
