The debate on the legalisation of cannabis has been scheduled for Monday 12th October.
Parliament will debate the motion to make the "production, sale and use of cannabis legal" in response to an official petition that has reached 211,000 signatures since it started. Any petition that is signed by more than 100,000 will be "considered" for debate, but this one is going further than that and actually getting a debate.
Don't get your hopes up, though, it's unlikely this debate is going to change anything. When the petition reached the 100,000 threshold, the government didn't seem very keen on the idea, saying "Substantial scientific evidence shows cannabis is a harmful drug that can damage human health. There are no plans to legalise cannabis as it would not address the harm to individuals and communities." But the last couple of months have seen a couple of British police forces relax their anti-weed laws, so maybe this could be the start of something.
