Sophie Turner has been filming a reboot based on the iconic video game franchise, Tomb Raider, where she will be portraying Lara Croft. However, production has been temporarily shut down.
“Sophie Turner recently experienced a minor injury,” a spokesperson for Amazon MGM Studios said in a statement to Deadline. “As a precaution, production has briefly paused to allow her time to recover. We look forward to resuming production as soon as possible.”
Turner is scheduled to return to work in two weeks. In the meantime, crew members will continue getting paid as they complete prep work. Although there are no details about Turner’s incident at this time, she has a pre-existing back injury, which she learned about during her training routine for the film.
“We’ve been doing eight hours a day, five days a week, since February last year of training, so it’s been a lot,” she stated on The Julia Cunningham Show.
The reboot, which is primarily filming in the UK, began in January 2026. When Turner was announced as the film’s star, she said, “I am thrilled beyond measure, to be playing Lara Croft. She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many – and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”
The reboot will be a television series streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, known for creating and starring in Fleabag, is attached as the creator, writer, and executive producer. Chad Hodge will work alongside her as executive producer and co-showrunner. Jonathan Van Tulleken, known for Shōgun, is directing.
