32-year-old country singer Tanner Usrey, who is scheduled to perform at Kid’s Rock Rock the Country event on May 2, was arrested in Collin County Texas on March 30. He is facing a second DWI offense and two felony drug charges. Court records show he was charged with possessing between 4 and 200 grams of a substance that can include fentanyl, which carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years.
His rep provided a statement to Fox News Digital: "This past Monday morning, after attending a birthday party, I was arrested for possession of drugs and a DWI. I know situations like this can be disappointing, and I take responsibility for putting myself in a position where this could happen."
He went on to say, "There has been speculation that I was arrested for possessing fentanyl or fentanyl-laced substances. Because this is an ongoing legal matter, I’ve been advised to keep my comments limited. What I can say is that fentanyl is an extremely dangerous and deadly drug, and its impact on this country is undeniable."
He also stated that he has never “knowingly possessed or ingested fentanyl” and would be “genuinely surprised” if the drug was detected in his system.
He completed the statement with, "My focus right now is on learning from this, making better decisions, and coming out the other side a better man. I truly appreciate you all, and I look forward to seeing you at the next show."
Usrey was released on a $12,500 bail after a judge ordered an ignition lock for his vehicle.
In addition to performing at Kid Rock’s Rock the Country event, Usrey is scheduled to play the Montgomery County Fair on April 11, Fiesta Oyster Bake on April 17, and Larry Joe Taylor’s Texas Music Festival on April 23.
This isn’t the first issue that the Kid Rock festival has run into. Multiple acts have already withdrawn. At least one of its major stops, in South Carolina, has been canceled.
