Chris Colfer played Kurt Hummel on Glee, the popular musical comedy-drama that ran from 2009-2015. During that time, he won a Golden Globe and three People’s Choice Awards. He was also named in the Time 100, which lists the most influential people in the world.
Although Colfer initially made his name as an actor, he is no stranger to writing. He has published over twenty books, including a series of bestselling children’s books called The Land of Stories, which is currently being developed into a film by Warner Bros. These books follow a pair of twins who discover a magical world where fairy tales are real, meeting classic characters like Cinderella and Red Riding Hood. Colfer has also written Struck By Lightning: The Carson Phillips Journal, a young adult novel that is based on his own screenplay.
Now, he is delving into a genre he has never attempted before. At the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Oscars viewing party, which is held each year to raise money for an important cause, he was interviewed by OUT and revealed: “I have two movies coming out this year and I’m currently writing my very first adult novel.”
When asked to describe the new story, Colfer said, “It’s real smutty. It’s real creepy, smutty, very gay.” The New York Times bestselling author went on to say, "It's very spooky and it's based on an experience I had. I do use the sex as a metaphor, so hopefully people will pick up on that."
When discussing the success of other queer, steamy novels, he said: “God bless Heated Rivalry. I don't know how many surgeries it would take for me to look like that, but I'm willing to find out! Is that too much to ask for?”
Colfer’s adult novel, which he hasn’t shared the title of yet, is scheduled to be released in summer of 2027.
