Alexa PenaVega and Carlos PenaVega competed against each other in season 21 of Dancing with the Stars. Alexa was partnered with Mark Ballas and Carlos was paired with Witney Carson.
During the April 26 episode of the Two Be Continued podcast, the couple opened up about their experience on the show, revealing that Carlos was “very jealous” of his wife’s relationship with Ballas.
“It was a blessing,” Carlos said, referring to them both appearing on the same season of the competition show. “Because I think if [Alexa] had done that show without me, I would have been at home watching TV and all the rehearsals and been like, ‘You’re spending 12 hours with this guy?’”
He continued, “The fact that I got to do it as well at the same time—it’s a lot of work. It looks very intimate, but really you’re like, ‘I hope I don’t mess this up.’ It’s not as sensual and stuff.”
Alexa spoke about her experience on the show being different than his. “I loved the show,“ she said. “But because Carlos was not at the time where he is now with his level of comfort—there were just insecurities—that made my experience so much harder. I wasn’t able to really focus the way I wanted to. That’s the part of marriage where I wish at the time I was a little better at communicating.”
She continued, “It would be so much more fun if we got a do-over. It’s tough on your marriage, that show.”
Alexa and Carlos met in 2012 and got married in 2014. After the wedding, they blended their two surnames, Pena and Vega to create their new last name, PenaVega. They share multiple children, who were born in 2016, 2019, 2021. In 2024, they also announced the stillbirth of their fourth child.
