Despite the fact that we really haven't seen a great Spider-Man movie since 2004, the webslinger still brings in bundles of cash from the moving going masses. Case in point, even the Amazing Spider-Man 2, which was the lowest-grossing Spider-Man film, and also wasn't exactly Citizen Kane, still brought in more than $700 million in global box office receipts.

Because of that ability to print money, it shouldn't be too much of a shock that a trio of solo Spidey films have already been green-lit for production, even before we see how well the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming film does.

The news about these confirmed, but still very far off, movies came from none other than the newest Peter Parker himself, Tom Holland.

"There is still a lot of room for Peter Parker and Spider-Man especially to grow in the next two movies," Holland said in a live chat with AlloCine. "He’s definitely not the finished article by the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming and I really look forward to exploring the different ways he can grow up and go through puberty I guess. It’s going to be an exciting couple of movies (…) Yeah, there’ll be Spider-Man 2 and 3, it won’t be Homecoming 2 and 3."

News of a sequel had actually already made headlines, but the reveal of a third film should make some nerd dongs tingle. The interviewer pointed out to Holland that there hadn't been official word of film No. 3 yet, to which the series' star responded "Well, now you know. Whoops!"

Holland had also previously stated that he wanted to play Spider-Man "for decades." We respect the commitment to the role, though you never really know how things will pan out in Hollywood. As for now, we're just hoping that the streak we mentioned in the first sentence of this write-up gets snapped next month.

You can judge for yourself when Spider Man: Homecoming hits theaters on July 7. Fingers crossed.
