On Wednesday Netflix dropped the trailer for Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich, which it claims will reveal the full story on the deceased Epstein.
News about the streamer's upcoming true crime docuseries first came out last summer, even prior to the financier/sex offender's death in August 2019. It's based on the 2016 book Filthy Rich: The Billionaire's Sex Scandal – The Shocking True Story of Jeffrey Epstein, which was co-written by James Patterson.
Patterson will serve as an executive producer for the Netflix project, directed by Lisa Bryant.
Also credited as an executive producer for the series is Joe Berlinger, who worked on the 2019 four-part Netflix series Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes.
The trailer shows how Epstein went from a "Gatsby-like figure of mystery" to an internationally known pariah after an investigation revealed he had been sex trafficking minors. It also shows that the series will delve into the sweetheart deal Epstein got in 2008, which spared him from a potential life sentence, with commentary in the trailer that refers to that as "one of the worst failures of the criminal justice system."
