According to multiple sources who talked to Page Six, Johnny Depp attacked a location manager while on the set of his upcoming Notorious B.I.G. film, Labyrinth. The "out of control" A-lister allegedly attempted a punch, while also yelling "I’ll give you $100,000 to punch me right now!" before he was subsequently pulled away. The new movie will see Depp playing real-life investigator Russell Poole, who worked on the case of Biggie's murder.
A source that spoke to Page Six says trouble started on the set when Depp took over as a director for a scene in which a pair of his friends played a homeless guy and a cop. That source stated "Johnny’s friends were in the scene, and it just turned into way more than it should have been," while adding that Depp wanted to continue filming after a permit for a closed off LA street had expired.
"The producers kept asking for the time to be extended," a source added. When the aforementioned location manager told the film's director, Brad Furman, that the scene had to finish up, Furman instructed him to relay that info to Depp. At that point, the manager told Depp "This is the last shot," which allegedly set him off. Depp, who was said to have been "smoking and drinking all day on set" then allegedly got right in the guy's face and yelled "Who are you? You have no right!’"
The manager then said to Depp "I’m just doing my job," at which point the three-time Academy Award nominee allegedly tried to punch him in the ribs. That punch is said to have done little to no impact, at which point Depp made the six-figure offer of "I’ll give you $100,000 to punch me right now!"
As for Furman, he said the whole incident was overblown. "Johnny Depp is a consummate professional, great collaborator and a supporter of other artists,” he said via statement. “He always treats the crew and people around him with the utmost respect. Movies can be stressful, and nonevents often become exaggerated. We all love stories — there isn’t one here."
