Erik Killmonger to Get His Own Marvel Comic Mini-Series

Marvel is set to release a five-issue mini-series starring Erik Killmonger, with the first of those five issues set to drop this upcoming December.

On Monday, Marvel announced that Erik Killmonger (who you no doubt remember as Black Panther's worthy adversary in the blockbuster of the same name) will get his own comic mini-series, which will simply be called Killmonger. The five-part tale will tell the his side of the story, with the first issue set for release on December 5.

"I wanted to explore the choices and the failures that lead a person to dedicate their life to revenge, and how that happens," said the series' writer (Bryan Edward Hill) to Vulture. "Because with Erik, I feel like it’s really a tragedy. It’s a story of a guy who was failed a lot by Wakanda in certain ways, by the people he met outside of Wakanda, by his own conscience in other ways, and I wanted to paint a portrait of that. Because to me the iconic fight between Erik Killmonger and T’Challa is tragic. It’s something that shouldn’t happen. It’s a conflict that’s borne from a tragic misunderstanding and a young man who was violently taken from his home."

Hill added "What I would like to let readers know is they should expect the unexpected with this. If they think that they know who Erik Killmonger is, they will be surprised by the aspects of this story. There’s everything here." Additionally, artist Juan Ferreyra tweeted out the cover for the first issue:

As we said above, be on the look-out for that on December 5.
