In recent years, there has been an ongoing struggle for the Oscars to recognize the contributions of women and people of color. Because it failed at doing so again this year, Natalie Portman decided to use her attire to pay homage to the women that were overlooked by the Academy.

Portman walked the red carpet on Sunday in a custom made Dior cape. While the media gawked over her attire, they noticed that there were names embroidered on her cape. When asked about the names, Portman revealed that they are the names of women directors that she felt were snubbed by the Oscars.

"I wanted to recognize the women who were not recognized for their incredible work this year in my subtle way," Portman said.

For the second year in the row, the Oscars have failed to recognize a woman director for the Best Director award. Nominated this year are Martin Scorsese for The Irishman, Todd Phillips for Joker, Sam Mendes for 1917, Quentin Tarantino for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Bong Joon-ho for Parasite.

Portman won an Academy Award in 2010 for her performance in Black Swan. Although the ceremony doesn't have a host, Portman is one of the entertainers scheduled to present an award.
