Hailey Bieber Calls Social Media a 'Breeding Ground' for Cruelty

This isn't the first time she has criticized social media.

Due to her highly publicized relationship, Hailey Bieber has been thrust into the spotlight. Living her life on this stage has allowed her to see both sides of social media — the good and the bad. Bieber decided to start her new year by explaining to her followers how hurtful the trolling can be.

"Instagram, Twitter etc is SUCH a breeding ground for cruelty towards each other, and because people don’t take the time to connect with each other on an honest level before they resort to hatred, it starts to damage what could be really beautiful human interaction and connection," she captioned the picture.

"I could sit here all day and say the hate doesn’t bug me, that the words that are said don’t affect me. But NEWS FLASH: it hurts to be torn apart on the internet!!!" she continued. "It hurts to be compared to other human beings every single day, it hurts for people to jump to conclusions and make assumptions. It hurts to be called names, and to feel like you don’t measure up to a certain standard.. the list goes on and on."

This isn't the first time she has criticized social media. Last month, Bieber told British Vogue that social media can breed hatred and toxicity between women.

"I think social media is a breeding ground for toxicity and people creating false drama between women and trying to put women up against each other and create these narratives that are just... toxic," she said.

Bieber's life has been an example of this. Often fans have grasped at straws to perpetuate a beef between herself and her husband's ex-girlfriend, Selena Gomez. Often, she has had to go on record to denounce rumors that certain posts were directed towards Gomez. She also recognizes that she's not the only person with this problem. As a result, Bieber decided to be vulnerable with her Instagram post in hopes it resonates with other people.

"I share this only because it weighs often on my heart and because it’s important to be honest about how these things affect us mentally and emotionally," she wrote. "Hopefully it speaks to someone struggling with the same."
