It's been 13 years since Pixar first brought us Finding Nemo, the often hilarious but mostly devastating animated film about an overprotective clown fish who travels across the seven seas to find his son. Along the way he met a Pacific regal blue tang named Dory, a good-natured fish who suffers from pretty bad amnesia. Well, now Dory is getting her own story, and a new trailer for her film, the aptly titled Finding Dory, has dropped.
Finding Dory picks up shortly after the events of the first film. It sees Dory, voiced by Ellen DeGeneres—who premiered the new trailer on her show—suddenly remembering her parents and deciding to take her own journey to find out more about herself and the fish who raised her. The trailer is definitely a blast to the past, and other than a few new characters (I spotted a beluga whale!), it seems like Pixar has wisely decided to stick to what worked so brilliantly in the first film. Finding Nemo is about self-discovery, family, and home—and Dory looks to be a wonderful (and equally heart-wrenching) extension of those themes.
In addition to DeGeneres, Albert Brooks, Willem Dafoe, Bob Peterson, and Vicki Lewis will once again do some incredible voicework for the film. New characters will be voiced by Eugene Levy, Diane Keaton, Ty Burrell, and Idris Elba is some unknown role.
Finding Dory will be released to theaters on Jun. 17, 2016.
