Viola Davis has won the Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Fences.
In her speech, Davis thanked her family and said she became an artist because "we are the only profession that celebrates what it means to live a life." Davis was also teary-eyed when she thanked Denzel Washington and her parents, Dan and Mae Alice.
“[My parents] are the center of my universe. The people who taught me good or bad. How to fail. Love. How to hold an award. How to lose. My parents. I’m so thankful that God chose you to bring me into this world," she said.
According to the Huffington Post, Davis becomes the first black woman to EGOT for acting, winning an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for How to Get Away With Murder, and two Tony Awards (one in 2001 for King Hedley II and in 2010 for the Broadway adaption of Fences).
