John Singleton Opens Up About His Career and Praises Donald Glover's 'Atlanta'

Celebrated filmmaker John Singleton shares gems from his career and gives props to Donald Glover.

In the final episode from our Complex Conversations series, which took place during our first annual ComplexCon, we shine a light on John Singleton's career with a one-on-one conversation hosted by activist DeRay Mckesson.

The celebrated filmmaker talked about his early years, including work on Boyz n the Hood, and how hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons helped him out in a major way. Later, Singleton shared his thoughts on social activism and how hip-hop has historically played a role. "We need to keep on kicking up dust and not make our fight against our persecution a fad," he said.

Singleton also praised Moonlight as well as Donald Glover's work on Atlanta because it shows a "multiplicity to black America."
