Robert Durst, subject of the Emmy award-winning documentary The Jinx and suspect in the 1982 disappearance of his first wife Kathie as well as the deaths of a neighbor in 2003 and his friend Susan Berman in 2000, which he is facing a murder charge for in Los Angeles, is going to plead guilty to a federal weapons charge. The plea was revealed by a court filing on Monday.
The 72-year-old was arrested in Louisiana for gun possession (a revolver), in addition to marijuana, and could’ve been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison. However, Durst is reportedly hoping to get a plea deal by changing his plea to guilty. He will reportedly enter the new plea at a rearraignment hearing Dec. 17. Durst’s new plea is being seen as an effort to get the weapons charge straightened out to head to California to face the murder charge by Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. Durst’s attorney Richard DeGuerin recently told People, "He is eager to finally get have his say in court, at his trial, in front of a jury and not with somebody who was only out to get an Emmy."
DeGuerin of course is alluding to The Jinx’s director Andrew Jarecki and the documentary’s jaw-dropping finale where Durst, still mic’d during a bathroom break is heard saying he “killed them all.”
